Taking the First Step
Today I took my first step toward correcting my vision. I've worn glasses and contacts for over 30 years, and really wish I didn't have to fool with the maintenance and hassle of both anymore. I've had several friends who have had the Lasik procedure, and they've gotten excellent results, but I never really had considered it as a serious option-mainly because I thought it must be a really "involved" process. However, when I heard Affinity Health Group was now offering the procedure on a routine basis, I thought I would just contact them to see what all was required. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the answer is "NOT MUCH!" The Affinity representative gave me a brief overview of the general steps leading up to the procedure, what would be involved in the procedure, and what I could expect as far as results. She encouraged me to stop by and let them "read" my glasses to find out if I was a good candidate for the Lasik procedure. Apparently, they are able to use a machine to refract or "read" the prescription of your lenses, which will then tell them whether you are a suitable candidate for the procedure. Therefore, today when I was out running errands, I stopped at the clinic, ran in, and in less than five minutes I received the news...I am a great candidate! I fall well within the range of correctable vision. I was pleasantly surprised, because I have always been extremely nearsighted, and sort of thought my vision may be too bad to get good results.
Before I left, I was scheduled for my initial consultation with Dr. Petermann in exactly one week from today, and if everything checks out okay, I'll have my procedure done on next Wednesday. I can't believe it...in just over a week, I will be able to say "bye-bye" to glasses and contacts for good! Boy, that was easy enough!
