Oncology
The Oncology and Hematology Center at Affinity Health Group specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of blood disorders and cancer.   The department has three board-certified oncologist-hematologists on staff as well as RNs, an LPN, an EMT, a CMA and a secretary.

Services
The department performs the following procedures:
• Paracentesis: the removal of excess fluid that has accumulated in your abdominal cavity.
• Thoracentesis: the aspiration (removal) of fluid from your chest.
• Bone Marrow Tests: the removal of a small amount of bone marrow from the back of your pelvic bone. Sedation is available. Your doctor will provide complete instructions prior to the procedure.
• Chemotherapy:  Since chemotherapy can cause numerous ill effects, the department assists with pain management, nutritional education and any other issues you may have.

The Oncology and Hematology Center at Affinity also provides IV infusions for the rest of the departments in the facility. Oncology staff members infuse Remicade â for Crohn's disease and rheumatoid arthritis to relieve the painful symptoms of these diseases. The staff also infuses IVIGs (immune globulin--globulin [a protein] from the blood of a person who is immune to a particular disease) for the Neurology Department. In addition, the Oncology and Hematology Center is available for antibiotic therapy or IV infusion therapy.
